How long have you been volunteering with Engineers Australia?
I have been volunteering with Engineers Australia since moving to Australia over 6 years ago.

Why did you become a volunteer?
I have been lucky to come across people in my career who gave up their time to help others. Those people may not have known it at the time, but they impacted my life a great deal through the lessons they shared. I love my profession, I have a passion for helping people and I love to give back so volunteering in my profession was an easy decision for me.

What do you enjoy most about being a volunteer?
I enjoy being able to help someone succeed, getting to network with amazing people and make new connections as well as hear their amazing stories along the way.

What has been your greatest achievement in your time volunteering with Engineers Australia?
My greatest achievement is being in the position to help students gain employment via different avenues, which got them that first step into their career story.

How has your career informed your work as a volunteer?
Working within the industry allows me to hear from people firsthand what they would like to get out of Engineers Australia.

How do you balance work and volunteering?
Organisation is key to balancing work, volunteering and your personal life. Having a supportive employer and partner that understands the benefit of volunteering with Engineers Australia and within the industry is a great help.

What would you tell other members who are considering becoming a volunteer?
It is one of the most rewarding things anyone can do; to be a part of what happens within our industry will go down in history.
