Neutron scattering techniques such as SANS, GISANS and Reflectometry are widely used techniques for biological and material science applications such as structural elucidation of proteins, polymers and crystals as well as imaging of fossils and metal stress/defect detection.

Future breakthroughs in medicine and renewable energy applications such as organic photovoltaics relies on neutron scattering being cheap and easily accessible to researchers.

Unfortunately, neutron scattering techniques require a nuclear reactor or spallation source which weigh thousands of tonnes and cost billions of dollars to construct. My concept would allow such technology to be made small and affordable like UV/Vis and NMR.
