The project aims to shine a new perspective upon how prosthetic engineering can also improve on many outdated medical procedures. More bio-integrated engineering solutions to our health problems allow for better rehabilitation and less post-operative complications.
The ‘Wallflex’ aims to be an example of these new-age prosthetics, presenting a fully bioresorbable stent system that naturally stretches and restores the oesophageal tract after an esophagectomy. External induction of synthetic muscle fibre contractions allows for a minimally invasive stimulation of tissue growth.
