My design focuses on improving the acceleration of a model solar car without effecting the overall maximum velocity.

This is done through implementing a hemispherical drive wheel system, which works similarly to a CVT transmission in modern cars, whereby a hemisphere’s effective diameter can be varied.

This allows the system to dynamically change its drive wheel diameter throughout a race. Where a model solar car will use a small wheel diameter at the start of the race producing the best acceleration characteristics, then rotating up to a maximum wheel diameter to maintain the best possible overall maximum velocity.
