Craig Power has worked in various operations as a mechanical engineer and is qualified as a safety professional. He worked in the Pilbara and on FIFO construction projects throughout Australia for over 35 years and formed his OHS consultancy business in 2015, which is ongoing.

Craig Invented and patented “iSOL8” – A digital Lock Out Tag Out Hazardous Energy Isolation system which was a finalist in the 2019 – WA Innovator of the Year awards and won the DXC Digital Innovation Platinum Award.

In September 2019 – iSOL8 Pty Ltd was sponsored by NERA to attend and showcase the iSOL8 Technology to the SPE Offshore Oil and Gas Conference in Aberdeen – UK.

How long have you been volunteering with Engineers Australia?
I have been volunteering for 3 years.

Why did you become a volunteer?
I began volunteering to encourage High School students to enter an engineering or VET career.

What do you enjoy most about being a volunteer?
I enjoy the interaction with students and teachers and introducing them to the outside world of work and potential careers.

What has been your greatest achievement in your time volunteering with Engineers Australia?
Four of my students who I mentored in a Drone Flying Program were accepted into the RIO TINTO Pilot automation course at South Metropolitan TAFE at Munster.

How has your career informed your work as a volunteer?
Volunteering expanded my network and afforded me the opportunity to meet like minded individuals who want to change the face of High School Education.

How do you balance work and volunteering?
I own my business and set down one day per week to do volunteering/mentoring activities.

What would you tell other members who are considering becoming a volunteer?
personal satisfaction in giving back to the community is fantastic.
